Local Suppliers
The Whitsand Bay Hotel tries to incorporate as much local produce as possible, supporting Cornish suppliers and reducing food miles. Below are a list of our key suppliers:
Cornish Meat, Poultry & Game
Finding a local Butcher who only stocked Cornish produce was not an easy task so meeting one of the Carder Family when playing golf was pure luck! The Carders have been purveyors of fine meats, poultry & game for generations and guarantee only Cornish stock from herds on Bodmin Moor, handmade Cornish sausages and locally caught game.
Cornish Fish
Tim Alsop of Looe has been fishing local waters for years. By using a day boat and line fishing, we are certain that the fish we receive has been caught and delivered to us on the same day. With wild Seabass caught as close as the bay outside the restaurant windows, to fresh Cornish Scallops, this is what dining in Cornwall is all about.
Cornish Fruit and Vegetables
Using a local grower of Cornish Fruit & Vegetables was vital to us when sourcing a supplier. Tamar View Fruiterers is a family run business who supplies us with a wonderful variety of top quality fresh produce that helps ensure our menus boast some of the most mouth-watering dishes in the county.
Cornish Cheeses
Mrs Minson is a lovely, very eccentric lady who makes a diverse range of cheeses at Menallack Farm in St Austell. With over 10 different varieties made onsite the choice is superb. Mrs Minson is also adept at seeking out the more unusual Cornish cheeses such as the Ewes Milk Cheese with strands of Apricot from the ‘Lost Gardens of Heligan’.
Cornish Ice Cream
This was an easy decision for us as Treleavens of Looe are locally renowned for their exquisite homemade organic Ice Creams. Each and every flavour is full of Clotted Cream making them rich, delicious and well deserving of the National Awards Treleavens have won for their produce.
